"Blessings"
I know you have heard it before, but our motto or mission at Birky Family Farms Country Gourmet is 'Bless & Refresh'.
This came from a time long ago when reading Genesis 12. God said to Abraham "I will make you into agrea nation, and I will bless you. I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you." At that moment in time God spoke to my heart and taught me that a blessing is only a blessing when it is shared. God blesses us so we can bless others for him. He also taught me that I am robbing others of his blessings when I don't let them bless me (pride). Since that time it has been a simple focus of mine to try to bless others and also allow others to bless me.
Several years ago the National Pork Producers Association contacted us to provide pigs for Steve Dolinsky, the food reviewer at ABC7 News in Chicago. We did and were invited to his annual hog roast birthday party. Every year now we have been able to provide him pigs and even attend a couple. Last year we even roasted the pigs for the event. A few weeks ago we received a phone call from Steve and he offered to come and do a small piece on us at Birky Family Farms. He stopped at our Country Market, our Bakery and at Piggies & Cream at the Depot in Kouts. This was truly exciting. This Friday, August 2, the feature will be aired on the 11AM news! It will run other times as well, but I do not know those. We get to go up to Chicago and serve pork burgers and ice cream to the broadcast team! We are extremely excited about this. We really hope it is a blessing to our community. We would love it if you could spread the word about this newscast.
We are so glad for each of you! Thanks for all your support. It has been and continues to be quite a journey with lots of ups and downs, but we keep pressing on by faith. Walk by faith and not by sight is the beginning of receiving and passing on the blessings of God!
